First steps
The first login starts on a finished desk. A machine with no settings yet opens on the Moon castle profile: the whole bar in one capsule, Analogue widgets on the wallpaper and the dock at the bottom. Everything below changes it.
The keys to know

A panel closes with the key that opened it, a click anywhere else, or Escape. The full list is in Keybindings.
Change the wallpaper
Section titled “Change the wallpaper”-
Press SUPER T. The island becomes a strip of the wallpapers.

Slide the strip with Left and Right, or with the pointer, and press Enter on the one in the middle.

Press Down for the palettes under it, or open them directly with SUPER SHIFT T. The adaptive palette takes its colours from the wallpaper; the others are fixed.
The same panel is under Wallpaper and Palette when you right-click the
wallpaper, and in Settings → Appearance → Theme. To add your own pictures, put
them in ~/.local/share/wallpapers (JPEG, PNG or WebP). They appear the next
time the strip opens. More in Wallpapers and palettes.
Open Settings
Section titled “Open Settings”Press SUPER ,, or right-click the wallpaper and choose Settings. It is an ordinary window with a search field over the sidebar, and the sidebar is in three groups: the shell, the desk and the session.
Arrange the bar
Section titled “Arrange the bar”Open Settings → Bar & Island → The bar. The bar is drawn as a picture, with a catalogue of every piece under it. Drag a piece onto the left or right half of the bar; drag one off the bar to remove it. Click a piece for a look of its own. Style, on the same page, draws the same layout grouped around the island, spread to the edges, or inside one capsule. See The bar.
Arrange the desk
Section titled “Arrange the desk”-
Right-click the wallpaper and choose Arrange widgets. The widgets come in front of the windows, and a card of every module opens at the bottom.

Drag a piece from the card onto the grid. Pull a widget’s corner to change its shape, and click it for its own look.

Take a widget off with the badge in its corner, or by dropping it back on the card.

Press Escape, or right-click the grid, to finish.

Switch profile
Section titled “Switch profile”A profile keeps a whole desk under a name: the bar, the widgets, the dock, the look, the keys, the wallpaper and its palette. Three come with impasto: Moon castle, Fuji and Night bay. Open Settings → System → Profiles and press Switch on one.
Your screens, your name and picture, the language, the weather location and the GitHub user stay with the machine. Notes, tasks and the clipboard are shared by every profile. See Settings.
Find every other key
Section titled “Find every other key”SUPER H shows every key on one sheet in the island, read from the compositor, so a key you changed is on it the next time it opens. To change one, go to Settings → Keys: The shell’s own and The compositor’s. Every key belongs to the profile in use. See Keys and packages.
